Learning objectives

  • The level of technique is exemplary (correct timing, distance, reception of the attack, destabilization of the uke and the connection between them, the performance of the techniques is consistent and shows good posture, use of the legs and hips for power output in the performance of techniques, acting on one's own centerline, relaxing, pacing and concentration).
  • The candidate is able to apply and adapt techniques to the movement of the uke.
  • The candidate is able to perform techniques against armed attacks so that they have a clear connection to his/her unarmed technique. Attention to distance and understanding the nature of the weapon is evident from the performance.
  • The candidate is able to defend against multiple simultaneous attackers with controlled use of space, distance, and timing.The candidate is able to pace the reception of attacks. The candidate plans his/her own positioning in relation to the attackers. The performance must be flowing.
  • The candidate is able to perform counter-techniques and understands the differences and similarities between basic techniques, applied techniques, free techniques, and counter-techniques.
  • Special attention is paid to performing jiyuwaza. Jiyuwaza is mobile, dynamic, flowing and unplanned. Concentration remains uninterrupted throughout the performance.
